As the heartbeat of Charlotte, North Carolina, Uptown offers a blend of modernity and Southern charm with a variety of restaurants, hotels and transportation options making it an ideal locale for couples seeking a wedding venue that exudes elegance and sophistication while also offering convenience for out of town guests.

With its picturesque skyline, historic landmarks, and diverse range of venues, Uptown Charlotte provides the perfect backdrop for couples embarking on their journey of love and commitment. Let's explore some of Heatherly Event Design’s favorite uptown wedding venues.

For the purpose of this article, we’ll be sticking to the area of Charlotte located inside of the circle created by hwy 85, Billy Graham Pkwy, Wendover, and Sugar Creek Rd.

Ups and Downs: The pros and cons of a Charlotte city wedding

Pro: Everything is all in one area and close to the airport. Luxury is at its absolute finest at these venues that spare no expensive to impress their clientele.

Cons: Most of the venues are more all-inclusive in that many require you to use their catering and the use of experienced venues is an absolute must. From the requirements for insurance to the challenging loading docks, you can’t skimp on your wedding vendor team. These must-dos can make for an overall higher budget requirement.

We think the following 10 Charlotte wedding venues are absolutely amazing. Hey, that’s why they made the list. With so many pros, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to our clients. However, we always like to note a few small “speed bumps” that may come your way.

  1. Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte: Combining modern luxury and sophistication, the Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte offers couples a truly unique and unforgettable wedding venue. From its exquisite art collection and opulent furnishings to its stunning event spaces and personalized service, this boutique hotel captures the essence of uptown Charlotte romance and sophistication. Whether you're planning an intimate rooftop or lavish garden ceremony, Heatherly Event Design highly recommends this stylish location. “Speed bumps” to consider: challenging elevator system that vendors must be familiar with for success.

  2. Foundation for the Carolinas: Nestled in the heart of Uptown, the Foundation for the Carolinas offers a stunning blend of contemporary architecture and art. With its spacious atrium flooded with natural light and sleek, modern design, this venue provides a “light and airy” canvas for couples to customize their dream wedding. Whether you envision an intimate ceremony or a grand affair, the Foundation for the Carolinas sets the stage for an unforgettable celebration. “Speed bumps” to consider: limited access time as well as artwork/features that cannot be removed.

  3. The Mint Museum Uptown: For couples seeking a wedding venue that combines artistry with sophistication, The Mint Museum Uptown stands out as a premier choice. This cultural gem features sleek galleries adorned with captivating artworks, providing a unique and elegant setting for weddings of all sizes. From exchanging vows surrounded by priceless masterpieces to dancing the night away in a chic and contemporary space, couples are sure to create memories to last a lifetime at The Mint Museum Uptown. “Speed bumps” to consider: artwork can change at any time and may affect the overall look/feel of the wedding; reception space requires design as it is a blank space.

  4. The Ruth: Situated just minutes from Uptown Charlotte, The Ruth offers couples a unique and modern space for their wedding day. With its incredibly chic bar and “backyard garden” this venue exudes style. Whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor ceremony, you have options at The Ruth and a reception space that functions well under a multitude of layouts and designs. “Speed bumps” to consider: for those wanting an entirely indoor event, the space may require a “flip” between ceremony and reception which can create challenges for some vendors/budgets.

  5. The Terrace at Cedar Hill: With small perks like excellent catering and easy parking, The Terrace at Cedar Hill offers couples a glitzy indoor-outdoor space boasting views of the Charlotte cityscape and specifically the Panther’s Stadium. The Terrace itself provides a romantic setting for cocktail hours while the indoor space offers up a few options for ceremony and reception layout. Whether you envision a sunset ceremony overlooking the city skyline or a candlelit dinner under the stunning chandeliers, the Terrace at Cedar Hill offers couples the opportunity to create a truly unforgettable wedding experience with a bit of ease not offered in all uptown venues. “Speed bumps” to consider: you can’t avoid the Bank of America logo and the football stadium.

  6. The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte: Renowned for its world-class amenities and exceptional service, The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte epitomizes luxury in Uptown. From its elegant Urban Garden “ballroom” to its impeccable attention to detail, this prestigious venue sets the standard for sophistication and opulence. With a team of seasoned professionals dedicated to bringing your vision to life, The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte offers couples a wedding experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. “Speed bumps” to consider: this is a public space and shutting it off completely to the public is a touch of a challenge.

  7. Goodyear House: Known for it’s charm as well as it’s award-winning Top Chef, The Goodyear House offers up a unique and charming location for Charlotte couples. Located in the heart of Noda (Ok, so, maybe not fully “uptown” but we love this spot and couldn’t resist putting it on the list, the staff at GH go the extra mile and the centuries old tree offers up a unique and breathtaking spot for ceremonies. “Speed bumps” to consider: due to its “restaurant” nature, The Goodyear House necessitates a unique wedding-day flow and (depending on guest count) may not allow for all guests to sit and/or dine/dance in the same area.

  8. Le Meridien Charlotte: Boasting modern luxury and unparalleled style, Le Meridien Charlotte offers couples a glamorous setting for their special day while also providing ease for guests who can stay in the same location as the wedding. With its sleek ballrooms and impeccable service, this upscale hotel exudes sophistication at every turn. Whether you're planning an intimate gathering or a lavish affair, Le Meridien Charlotte provides the perfect blend of elegance and refinement for a truly unforgettable wedding experience. “Speed bumps” to consider: like many hotels that feature ballrooms for wedding receptions that are note “blank slates”, Le Meridien’s style is very specific and should be considered when designing your full event.

  9. Van Landingham Estate: Tucked away in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood neighborhood (we know, we know… also not technically uptown), the VanLandingham Estate offers couples a picturesque setting for their wedding day. With its lush gardens, historic mansion, and elegant event spaces, this charming estate provides a romantic backdrop for ceremonies and receptions. Whether you're planning a garden ceremony surrounded by blooming flowers or tented reception, the VanLandingham Estate offers couples a beautiful and intimate venue to celebrate their love right in the heart of Charlotte. “Speed bumps” to consider: this venue does not require a Planner or Coordinator which, we feel, is deceiving to the obviously inexperienced clientele. A coordinator is, in our opinion, an absolute must so don’t let this well-intentioned lack of requirement mess you up.

  10. The Duke Mansion: Steeped in history and Southern charm, The Duke Mansion offers couples a timeless setting for their wedding celebrations. With its beautifully landscaped gardens, historic architecture, and elegant event spaces, this historic estate provides a romantic backdrop for ceremonies and receptions. Whether you prefer a sophisticated indoor affair or a charming outdoor celebration, The Duke Mansion offers couples a one-of-a-kind venue to create cherished memories with loved ones. “Speed bumps” to consider: this venue only allows for 25 weddings a year which, when mixed with its renowned popularity, can make it challenging to book.
